Who knew we could sing and dance?!

A couple of weeks ago, one of the English tutors told me to check out his band at Rock the Wave at the KU pub. Of course I couldn't miss out on this fabulous opportunity, so my friends and I checked out the pub to see the band. Little did I know but the English tutor was the LEAD SINGER!! and he was really good too. The band played a ton of fun covers, everyone was singing along, it was great. Then the lead singer told us to go out and dance- yes some people were reluctant- but I made sure there was dancing.

So to check out this band- 5 cents a shot- come to the pub this Thursday at 10. It is 18 and up with a $4 cover. Vote for your (2nd) favorite tutor's band so that he can play at Daytona.

Still Flying High????? You Decide

So I'm sure that the Flyer Faithful are all fully aware that the Flyers chances of making the NCAA Tournament. The only chance the Flyers stand of making the tournament is winning out the rest of their season, and they will for sure need to win the first round of the A10 Tournament. It sounds like UD will absolutely recieve an invitation to the NCAA Tournament if they advance to the finals of the A10 Tournament. Can the Flyers succeed? Cannot wait to hear people's thoughts

Jumper

Last night I ventured out into the cold to make the trip to a local Cinema. I went to go see the highly advertised movie Jumper. This was a decently entertaining movie mainly becuase of the characters super hero powers. The places they would travel/jump to were very interesting and the possibilities were endless. After seeing the movie I decided to change my preference on what super hero power I would want. Instead of super human speed, I now wan to be a Jumper. And after seeing the movie you would understand. However, there is one big draw back to the movie. The entire time they talk about their Jumper ability and what they can do, but they never discuss how it is possible. Although it is impossible it would have been nice if they had at least made something up to make Jumping more legit. In conclusion it is a pretty cool movie but nothing to obsess over by any means.

Barrack Obama and I ... We're pretty much friends now...

Attending the Barrack Obama rally at Nutter Center was an experience. The environment was electric and the excitement was contagious. So who could blame me for trying to reach out in hopes of getting a handshake ... no one... well no one except for Barrack himself. As he walked out and began shaking hands I was apart of the crowd that all lunged forward trying to touch history. But as we lunged... he took a step back... looked me straight in the eye and gently said "dont push..." Time froze as I looked the future of America in the eye... wait a minute... did he just tell me to stop pushing?... i just wanted a handshake... can't blame me right??? ... i was just reprimanded by the potential future president in potentially one of the most historical men in the history of the US... not gonna lie... its kinda embarassing... and kinda awesome at the same time...

After this strange rush of mixed emotions subsided... i realized that i still didn't get my handshake... so as the speech went on i slowly manuevered myself into position against the metal gate like barricade, and after standing on my feet for hours, my strategy paid off. As Barrack made his way towards the exit, shaking hands, I was able to reach out and shake history's hand. But Ohhh it does not stop there... as the crowd around me pressed in, the lady next to me began to fall backwards into the crowd. Barrack let out a "woah woah!!!" and proceeded to reach into the crowd and extended a helping hand to the helpless lady. I quickly caught on to the situation and the opportunity that presented itself. I reached down, one hand on the lady, one on Barrack, and i helped bring her back to her feet. He gave the lady a hug and then dissapeared into the exit. This is when I had a realization... I just helped the (potentially) next president of the United States... we technically just worked together to accomplish something. Yah I'll admit it... I felt like a badass... I probably should have slipped him my card and let him know that if he needed a running mate he could always give me a call... but i guess i could always wait till the next election...

What About the Big Eaters?

Every night for dinner until now I have looked forward to dinner at VWK. Don't get me wrong, the food at the other dining halls was good, but it just was not enough food for the money I payed. I did not get enough bang for my buck. If I ate at KU or Marycrest I would always walk back to my dorm hungry. VWK is the only dining hall that kept me full and satisfied. Due to the recent closing of Marycrest for renevation, VWK has changed from "all you can eat" to "a la carte". This means I can not eat until I am full anymore unless I want to spend a lot of money. It is not fair. I think the portions should be bigger or VWK should go back to "all you can eat".

Rush is FINALLY over!

After the long awaited process of rush for sororities, it’s finally over! The week of rush was a long one, waiting to see if you got called back to the sorority you wanted, having to choose which one you liked best, and attending parties. It was a long week but totally worth it. Getting dressed up on school nights and talking and meeting new girls was very exciting, one of the highlights of the process was getting to know each sorority, which completely alters your decision. Now that rush is over, weeks are full of new member meetings and socials. Currently it is Big/Little week, one of the best weeks!! More to come about that later!

Rudy Fruity

Tired of the cold and icy weather? Would you rather be lounging on the beach? Then head on over to the Galley and order yourself a Rudy Fruity. It's called a Rudy Fruity because 1. Rudy is our beloved mascot, and 2. because the drink tastes like a fruity daiquiri. A Rudy Fruity is a blended frozen drink made with sherbet and Sprite that will make you feel like you're on a tropic island. You can order a regular or large size, depending on what amount of tropical awesomeness you are in the mood for!

Eli Manning is probably related to Zues

I would like to take this time to thank Eli Manning for preventing the New England Patriots from having an undefeated season. Sure he won the Super Bowl... but what really matters is the fact that the Patriots are NOT the Super Bowl Champs and they were NOT able to complete an undefeated season.
In a country where colonists claimed independence by coming together to beat 80,000 much better trained troops from the most powerful country in the world, Eli Manning is a National Hero. The Statue of Liberty calls for countries poor and rejected... not for thier rich and wealthy, and Eli Manning fits this mold much better than Tom Brady (Girls who dont even know what a touchdown is can tell me who Tom Brady is...) He reflects the attitude and principles of our founding fathers... teamwork, leadership, and above all ... RESILIENCE. He was butchered by the media and took it like a man. He was able to say "No San Diego... I don't want to be drafted by you. I'd rather go to New York." He knows what he wants and goes out and gets it. Forget a Chuck Norris drop kick... an Eli Manning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress was used to take down Evil this time. I don't understand why we dont just send Eli Manning the the Middle East... no doubt Osama would come out of his cave waving a white flag.

You know... Forget National Hero... Eli Manning should be the 113th Man Law... Thats right... Just "Man Law 113: Eli Manning"... 'nuff said

No Country for Old Men

This weekend my brother burned No Country for Old Men and mailed it out to me. I thought the movie was great. This movie is about a man who finds $2 million from a drug deal gone bad in the middle of the desert. Unfortunately for him, he did not realize a tracker was placed inside the briefcase full of money! Throughout the movie he is chased down by a crazy lunatic and Mexican drug lords. The crazy lunatic happens to be nominated for an academy award for his great acting performance. This movie is a true action/thriller with tons of violence. Although the ending of the movie was somewhat shocking, I encourgae anyone who enjoys action/thrillers to go out and see this movie!

Who needs sleep anyway???

Over the past three nights, I have not gotten more than four hours of sleep at a time. I have followed up these nights with one of CollegeHumor.Com's ten commandments to college with the art of napping. While napping may seem immaculate while lying in bed I tend to notice that the energy I get from a nap does not compare to the energy I get from a full nights sleep. When I noticed napping still left me dozing off during class, I turned to another means. I am currently running on the phenomenon of caffiene. Early on in the day it may be a cup of coffee or as the day goes on I might throw down a bottle of vault with my lunch. Other more extreme forms may be caffiene pills (I'd recommend use only for studying for major exams or tests). While my brother is very opposed to artificial forms of energy (that sounded wierd) ... I am all for anything that gives me an edge. And honestly, I am much more happy when I am going through my day awake and alert. Where do you stand?

All You Can Eat Wings

Every time a home Flyer's basketball game rolls around, VWK has a special "all you can eat" chicken wing night. And it's awesome. This is a great change of pace from the regular menu. These aren't just your average litte chicken wings. No. These wings are big, really big, and tasty, and they have some great flavored sauces. The three choices of sauces are buffalo, chipotle barbaque, and honey mustard. My favorite flavor is the buffalo because it has a nice kick to it, but it is not over the top. The chipotle barbaque is also quite good. The honey mustard was a little sweet for me, but can be good if you are looking for that kind of taste. If you decide to go to VWK before the next Flyer's home game, come hungry and get ready to lick your fingers a lot.

Third Eye Blind

This past sunday I was able to make the trip to Convington, Ky to see the band Third Eye Blind. I'm sure all of you have heard their music in one way or another. This concert was excellent. One reason is because I made the trip with 6 of my friends from the football team. And a concert just is'nt the same without good friends. Another reason is because 3eB is one of my favorite bands, with thier variety of upbeat and slower songs that allow the crowd to sing along. Although, their songs are far from what some would call a PG rating, they are still great to listen to. I have now seen Third Eye Blind twice in concert and both have been the best concerts I have ever been to. I enjoy thier small venues, however, they could use a better opening act. But I recommended to anyone who enjoys that type of music to make an effort to see them in concert. I garuntee you will enjoy it.

Dayton Continues its Decline

After beginning their season with a 14-1 record and beating Big East powerhouses Louisville and Pittsburg, their season looked very bright for the Flyers. They were ranked as high as #18th in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Things looked great for the Flyers and it seemed like they were a lock for the Big Dance in March. However, things quickly changed! After being ranked #18th in the country, the Flyers have lost 5 of their last 7 games and their Atlantic 10 record is only 4-5! Injuries have had a big impact on their recent struggles . Charles Little was out for 3 games in which Dayton lost 2 of the three. Secong-leading scorer Chris Wright broke his ankle 8 games ago and still has not returned. You can see injuries are playing a major role on the Flyers decline.
Even though the Flyers have lost 5 of the last 7 games, they are currently projected as a 12th seed in the Big Dance. But if their struggles continue, they might be playing their postseason in the NIT rather than the Big Dance.

FSN Ohio Rediculous Television Listings

Since I am a Cleveland native, I have been getting angry as of late that FSN chooses to play the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Cleveland Cavaliers. I know Dayton is closer to Columbus, but I would bet that FSN would probably get more viewers if they played the Cavaliers over the Blue Jackets down here. Currently, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a record of 25-23-7, which is above .500, but they are still in 11th place in their conference. In hockey, each conference has eight teams that go to the playoffs. Yes, the regular season goes until early April so the Blue Jackets still have a good chance of making the playoffs. I don't mind if they show some of the games, but it really made me angry last night when they chose to show the Blue Jackets game over the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. the Boston Celtics. The Celtics have the best record in the NBA, and the Cavaliers are the second hottest team with a record of 15-4 since Christmas. Last night the Blue Jackets game ended up going into overtime, but they still ended up losing to the Washington Senators. The Cavaliers game went down to the last second with the Cavs pulling out a 115-114 win. There are more basketball fans than hockey fans in the United States, and I just believe they should show more Cavaliers game instead of always showing the Blue Jackets.
