Betcha didn't know...

While many students recover from hangover in their dorms on saturday afternoons in Autumn, the UD football team battles in out on the gridiron. Many people disregard the football games and don't think much of the football program here. Well let me put in context how mistaken those people are. UD football is legendary. UD football has produced some of the most succesful coaches ever to step on the field. Famous football coaches include Jon Gruden of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who won the superbowl in 2002 (ish), Chuck Knoll, who coaches the Pittsburg Steelers to 4 super bowl wins, Hugh Devore, who coached for a short period of time at UD and also the University of Notre Dame, Gerry Faust, who coached Cincinatti Moeller High School to multiple National Championships in the late 70's and also went on to coach 5 years at Notre Dame and 10 Years at Akron, and last but certainly not least Coach Mike Kelly, who's winning percentage of 81% (ish) is fourth all time amongst coaches (who coached 25 years or more) and whose recent announcement of retirement made a top headline under the college football section of both ESPN.com and Sports Illustrated's web site. Also, in an encounter with Jim Grobe, the D-I coach of the year in 2007, he told me "No one's as good as Coach Kelly". So next fall, when you have to decide whether to roll over in bed and lay in your bed for an extra hour trying to tell yourself that your still asleep or come out to a football game, remember that UD football is bigger than you think.
